Iain joined Kilburn & Strode in 2001 having obtained an MA Honours Degree in 1996 from the University of Dundee followed by a PhD in 2000 from the University of Edinburgh. His research, which combined the fields of Molecular Biology and Oceanography, has been published, including a paper in Nature. Although a scientist, Iain decided to specialise in trade mark law and qualified as a Registered Trade Mark Attorney, and has been entered on the OHIM list of professional representatives as a European Trade Mark Attorney.
Iain has experience of UK, European Community, International ("Madrid") and overseas trade mark systems. He handles all aspects of trade mark work, including trade mark clearance searches, infringement opinions, and the filing and prosecution of applications, oppositions and cancellation actions. Iain has an interest in industrial designs and has experience of UK and Community Registered Designs. Iain also has experience of handling domain name disputes before Nominet and the World Intellectual Property Organisation. His clients range from SMEs through to blue-chip multinational corporations, which are involved in all manner of business activities.
Iain is a contributor to the Community Trade Marks Handbook and the INTA Trade Mark Opposition Guide, and he sits on the ITMA Education & Training Committee. Iain has lectured to students on trade mark law and practice.
