Chris Rees
Consultant
Chris is a European Patent Attorney, Chartered Patent Attorney and Registered Trade Mark Agent. He studied Chemical Engineering at University College London under a scholarship from National Smokeless Fuels Ltd and graduated with a BSc honours degree in 1975. He qualified with Kilburn & Strode and became a partner in 1986, and retired from the partnership in September 2010. His particular technical expertise is in chemical and other engineering disciplines and also in the music industry. Chris handles a considerable amount of original patent drafting, for clients as diverse as UK SME's and foreign-based multinationals. In addition to his responsibility for the prosecution of large portfolios of his clients' cases before the European Patent Office, he has extensive experience of European patent oppositions and appeals. He regularly conducts oral proceedings before the Opposition Division and the Appeals Board. His opposition experience has led to a significant involvement in UK patent litigation as a patent consultant.
In addition, Chris is Chairman of the Patent Attorneys Mutual Insurance Association, is a UK Council member of UNION and is a member of AIPPI. With his deep commitment to continuing professional development, Chris is integrally involved in training both within Kilburn & Strode and outside the firm. He has presented seminars, lectures and direct training to a wide variety of recipients.
