Peter Hale

Peter has a BSc Honours degree in Communication Engineering. He qualified professionally with Kilburn & Strode in 1990 and became a partner of the firm in 1992. He is a Chartered Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney and a Registered Trade Mark Agent. Before embarking on his degree he was a Merchant Navy Engineer Officer. His practice is devoted mainly to patent prosecution, particularly large portfolio management, and oppositions at the European Patent Office. Peter’s specialisations are in communications and control systems. Having a naval engineering background, he also practices in the fields of mechanics and thermodynamics. He is responsible for various patent filing programmes for multinational companies. The track record in oppositions stems from a large and diverse caseload over a number of years. Currently, there are over 60 EPO opposition/appeal matters for which he is responsible. He also advises clients on policing their patent rights and licensing negotiations. He is also a certified patent attorney litigator. In this guise he has conducted patent cases personally before the UK patent courts as well as providing technical support in UK patent infringement actions. This has included co-ordinating strategies in parallel UK and US patent actions. Peter is recommended in the independent 2008/9 UK Legal 500 reference work on the legal profession.
