Tim joined Kilburn & Strode in 1995 having obtained an MA honours degree in Natural Sciences (chemical engineering and chemistry) from the University of Cambridge in 1994, and a Master of Engineering (chemical engineering) from the same University in 1995. He qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 1999 and as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2000. He was made a partner in 2003.
His work is principally in the field of chemical engineering but he has substantial experience working for clients in the chemical and mechanical engineering fields. He is involved in all aspects of patent work from patent drafting and prosecution before both the UK and European Patent Offices to defending patents at opposition and litigating patents in the UK Courts. He advises on issues of infringement and validity and prepares and files oppositions and third party observation submissions on competitor’s cases at the UK and European Patent Offices. He has also successfully prosecuted a number of applications for patent restoration at the UK Patent Office. In addition to his work in the patents field, he also has considerable experience in the protection of designs in the UK and overseas.
He is also actively involved in the training of those preparing for the UK and European patent exams both within the firm and externally, and lectures to a range of audiences regularly on patent topics.
