Andrea Coles
Associate
Andrea is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications before both the European Patent Office and the UK Intellectual Property Office, as well as in non-European countries, including the US, China and Japan. She has represented clients in both pre-grant (Examination) and post-grant (Opposition and Board of Appeal) hearings at the EPO. She also has experience of preparing patentability and infringement opinions. Andrea handles patent work in a wide range of fields, principally in chemistry and in pharmaceuticals. She has particular experience in protein kinase inhibitors, drug delivery formulations, polymorphic forms, cosmetics, polymer chemistry, synthetic processes, microfluidic devices, electrochemistry, and medical equipment. Andrea joined Kilburn & Strode in 2003. She obtained the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary College, University of London in 2005, and qualified as a European Patent Attorney and as a UK Patent Attorney in 2008. She graduated from Imperial College London with a first class MSci honours degree in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry. In her final year, she carried out research on the toxicology of Selective Oestrogen Receptor Modulators in the human endometrium.
Besides English, she is fluent in both German and French.
