Paul Chapman

Paul obtained a BSc honours degree in Biochemistry from University College London in 1982. After several years in research, he entered the patent profession in 1987, working in private practice. He subsequently spent two and a half years in the patents and agreements department of The Wellcome Foundation, where he qualified professionally as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 1992. He is also a Registered Trade Mark Agent. He joined Kilburn & Strode in 1994, becoming a partner in 1997.
His practice concentrates on patent drafting and prosecution in the pharmaceutical, biotechnological and diagnostic fields. His clients span a broad range, including large multinational corporations, Universities and small start-up companies. He is also involved in advising on third party rights in these areas and he has a substantial portfolio of oppositions and appeals before the EPO. He also has experience working as part of a team negotiating the licensing of intellectual property.
He has lectured on the subject of pharmaceutical and biotech intellectual property, is a member of CIPA's Biotechnology committee and is also one of Kilburn & Strode's contacts with the BioIndustry Association (BIA).
