After obtaining a B.Sc. (Eng) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wales, Cardiff, Ron spent several years in industry as a Design and Development Engineer with a major UK electronics company, becoming a Chartered Electrical Engineer and Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, [formerly known as the Institution of Electrical Engineers]. His work involved design and development of digital radio communications systems and circuits at IF, RF and Microwave frequencies, and the design, layout and testing of custom bipolar and MOS analogue and digital integrated circuits.
In 1976 he joined the UK Patent Office, becoming a Senior Patent Examiner responsible for analogue and digital electronic circuitry, power switching circuits, and semiconductor memories. In 1989 he joined the patent department of a major UK electrical engineering company, where he qualified as a European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney.
He has had considerable experience in original drafting and prosecution of patent applications in a wide variety of light and heavy engineering subjects including fibre optics, radar, image sensors, flat screen displays, microwave components, antennas, radio systems and diesel engines. He has been a regular contributor to the CIPA Journal on a variety of legal and technical topics. He speaks French, German and Spanish. He joined Kilburn & Strode in 2004.
