Nigel is a European Patent Attorney, Chartered Patent Attorney and Registered Trade Mark Agent. He has an MA Honours degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge. He joined Kilburn & Strode in 1975 after a period of work in Germany. He speaks German and corresponds in German with a number of clients. He qualified professionally in 1979 and became a partner in 1981.

He deals with a wide range of patent and design work in the mechanical and general engineering fields (in particular concerning refractories and heavy engineering), and has a large trade mark practice. He has had considerable personal involvement in patent and related litigation and in trade mark opposition and cancellation proceedings world-wide. More recently he has been heavily involved in Community Trade Mark oppositions.

He has travelled widely and is a frequent visitor to Germany both for German clients and on German/European matters for a variety of other clients. He is also much involved with the day-to-day problems of validity, infringement, registrability and licensing of trade marks, both in the UK and abroad which arise out of clients' trade mark portfolios.

The Legal 500 (2011), a leading guide to the UK legal profession, recognises Nigel as ‘extremely clear in explaining issues and the possible solutions.’
