Engineering

Kilburn and Strode acts for a number of clients operating in the chemical and engineering fields. Our clients vary from the individual private inventor, through SMEs, to large multinational companies, as well as overseas clients either directly or on instruction from local patent attorneys. We also work for a number of academic institutions and technology transfer companies.

Because of the diversity of clients that we have, we appreciate that each client has different requirements and that those requirements may change as they develop. Our service is therefore customised for the client's requirements at a particular time. For some clients, we act almost as an in-house department with direct contact with inventors, whilst for others, we take instructions from an in-house patent attorney or patent co-ordinator. Our work ranges from obtaining patents and design registrations to contentious work, such as litigation and European Patent Office oppositions, in which we have considerable experience. In addition, we offer searching services and provide infringement and validity opinions on competitor's patents of interest.

The technologies we deal with are equally diverse. Our chemical engineering group deals with inventions in fields ranging from personal cleaning products to catalysts, alloys and coatings to the heaviest of heavy industrial and petroleum technologies and to seismic exploration. In particular they are busy in the Fischer-Tropsch field and the pre- and post-treatment of gas and oil in general. For further information on our chemical engineering services, please contact Chris Rees or Tim Copsey.

Turning to general mechanical engineering, we are active in a number of areas, including the automotive, aerospace, marine, turbomachinery, transport, medical, civil and construction industries, and micro/nano engineering. By definition, the range of products which we work on here is broad and ever developing. For further information on mechanical engineering, please contact Nigel Jennings, Peter Hale or James Miller.

Details of the attorneys primarily working in one or more of the chemical and engineering disciplines can be found through the links to the profiles below. Please also have a look at our Chemistry, Life Sciences and IT, electronics and Physics groups for details of our services in these related fields.
